My darling,
At the outset of this journey, I recall that you prayed, “ if this is the end of my life, help me to glorify you in death as you have taught me to glorify you in life.” I would say the testimony of your life in this season is that God has been faithful to answer your prayer.
Today I’d like to ask that you pray for me. This morning I have been asking our Father for the grace, strength, courage and obedience to help you on this journey.
Grace: that miraculous, supernatural power to be and do. I need the grace to remain calm, aptly focused and sufficiently strong to the mission to which God is calling me. Pray for God’s grace upon me.
Strength: comes in many forms, physical, emotional and spiritual. In this season, I need strength in all three. I am very much aware of the need to take in all that is happening, I’m neither oblivious nor ignorant to the consequences of denying these emotions. I shall not deny the emotions, but that is not the mission to which God is calling me. Pray for my strength.
Courage: How many times have you heard me tell our kids and grandkids that courage is not the absence of fear, it is action in the face of it? Baby I am afraid. I’m afraid of losing you. I’m afraid of life without you. I’m afraid of the uncertainty. But in the face of that fear, I shall be dauntless, because God has been faithful to me. Every time, faithful. Pray for my courage.
Obedience: Like you, I want to glorify God and enjoy his presence forever. Both require an effort to obey. Pray that I might be loyal to the calling and faithful to the mission. A mission is specific and often involves a journey. My mission is to assist and guide you through your journey and I want to be a faithful guide to you. I said loyal, because while the word is synonymous with faithful, it requires an object of the faithfulness. The loyalty required here is loyalty to the God who created us, sustains us and brought us to this place. Pray for my obedience.
While I sat this morning praying for you before writing this letter, I’m now asking that you pray for me. It’s an easy ask, I know you already are, so here’s my list.
Together we can glorify God and together we can enjoy his presence forever.
I love you sweetie.
Brad
